CARE TIPS

Rattan

  • Place your rattan furniture in places where humidity and heat levels are consistent, as changes can result in warps or cracks due to expansion and contraction.

  • Moisture and heat can cause damage to any finish. Always wipe up moisture promptly and dry with a soft cloth. Do not place hot items directly on the rattan surface.

  • Over time, air and sunlight may cause changes in the colour of the rattan. To reduce the change in colour, do not place your furniture in areas directly exposed to sunlight such as in front of windows. If you are placing items on your rattan furniture, occasionally rotate the items to allow a more uniform color to develop.

  • Dust regularly using a soft cloth or feather duster to remove dust and debris from the surface of the rattan. For intricate weaving, a soft-bristled brush or a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment can help reach the nooks and crannies.

  • For further cleaning, a soft, lint-free cloth with water and a drop of mild soap is recommended. Do not use strong cleaning products such as bleach as this may dissolve the finish. If in doubt, test the cleaning product on a small patch in an inconspicuous location before applying to the rest of the furniture. Avoid soaking the rattan, as excess water can damage the fibres. Remove soap residue with a clean damp cloth and dry with a towel, then let dry completely in a ventilated area.

  • Every six months, use lemon oil or polish available from hardware stores, to protect the finish and retain a shine.

Upholstery (Velvet)

  • For regular dusting, use a soft brush or vacuum with an upholstery attachment to remove dust and lint. Always brush or vacuum in the direction of the pile to maintain the velvet’s texture and sheen.

  • Handwash recommended, do not wring dry. For machine wash, turn cover inside out and select delicate cycle with low temperature/cold water.

  • Do not use bleach, harsh chemicals, or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the delicate fibers and alter the texture of the velvet.

  • To prevent stains, always clean spills immediately by gently blotting the surface with a damp cloth and mild soap, do not rub as this may cause the area to spread.

  • Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause fading. Place away from windows or use curtains/blinds to limit exposure.
