Product Care & Warranty
PRODUCT CARE
Just as in nature, all things are one-of-a-kind
The unique textures, patterns, and variations found in nature add character and authenticity to every piece.
Celebrate the inherent diversity of nature with each piece that you own from Nature Native, handcrafted to last for a long time, especially with regular care.
For tips on how to care for your furniture, you may refer to the respective product pages; for product care based on material type, please read below.
Cane/Rattan
Proper care and maintenance can help extend the life of your cane/rattan furniture and keep it looking its best.
While cane furniture can add a beautiful, natural touch to outdoor spaces, the material is susceptible to warping and mould in places with high humidity, and can become brittle and faded over prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
You may wish to place these pieces in shaded outdoor areas such as sheltered patios and balconies. We recommend the use of outdoor furniture covers and regular cleaning to ensure they remain in good condition.
- Place your rattan furniture in places where humidity and heat levels are consistent, as changes can result in warps or cracks due to expansion and contraction.
- Moisture and heat can cause damage to any finish. Always wipe up moisture promptly and dry with a soft cloth. Do not place hot items directly on the rattan surface.
- Over time, air and sunlight may cause changes in the colour of the rattan. To reduce the change in colour, do not place your furniture in areas directly exposed to sunlight such as in front of windows. If you are placing items on your rattan furniture, occasionally rotate the items to allow a more uniform color to develop.
- Dust regularly using a soft cloth or feather duster to remove dust and debris from the surface of the rattan. For intricate weaving, a soft-bristled brush or a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment can help reach the nooks and crannies.
- For further cleaning, a soft, lint-free cloth with water and a drop of mild soap is recommended. Do not use strong cleaning products such as bleach as this may dissolve the finish. If in doubt, test the cleaning product on a small patch in an inconspicuous location before applying to the rest of the furniture. Avoid soaking the rattan, as excess water can damage the fibres. Remove soap residue with a clean damp cloth and dry with a towel, then let dry completely in a ventilated area.
- Every six months, use lemon oil or polish available from hardware stores, to protect the finish and retain a shine.
Teak Wood
Teak's natural oils and dense grain make it a popular choice for durable, long-lasting furniture, and with a little care, it will continue to enhance your space with its timeless elegance.
- Clean your teak furniture regularly with a soft brush or cloth and mild soapy water to remove dirt and dust. Rinse with clean water and let it dry completely. This helps maintain the natural beauty and prevent dirt buildup.
- Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the natural oils in the wood and affect its finish. Stick to gentle, eco-friendly cleaning solutions.
- Teak is naturally resistant to stains, but it is still a good idea to use coasters, placemats, or tablecloths to protect surfaces from food and drink spills. Wipe up any spills immediately to prevent staining.
- Every six months, especially if the furniture is exposed to the sun, apply teak/lemon oil or a sealant available from hardware stores. This will help to maintain the warm golden color of teak and prevent it from weathering to a silver-gray patina, unless an aged look is preferred.
- Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause the wood to fade and dry out. If possible, position your furniture in a shaded area or use covers to protect it from intense sunlight.
- If your teak furniture is placed outdoors, consider using covers during extreme weather conditions or storing it indoors during wetter months. While teak is durable and weather-resistant, it can still benefit from protection against harsh elements.
Alu-Cane, Powder-Coated Aluminium
Aluminium is lightweight and resistant to rust, this highly durable material is hence used to make our outdoor/weatherproof pieces. All our aluminium pieces are powder-coated to give them an extra layer of protection and a smooth, uniform finish.
- Use a soft cloth or feather duster to remove dust and dirt from the furniture surfaces regularly. This helps prevent the buildup of grime that can scratch or dull the finish over time.
- Powder-coated aluminium frames are rust-free and are suitable for outdoors or areas near the sea. These furniture can be washed with water and mild soap if necessary, using a soft sponge or cloth. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any soap residue. After washing, dry the furniture with a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent water spots and streaks. This also helps protect against water-related damage.
- Do not use any abrasive cleaners or cleaning materials such as scrub pads and brushes to prevent scratches or damage to the powder-coated finishes. Aluminium must not be polished using metal polishes or harsh chemicals as these can damage the powder-coating and compromise its protective properties.
- Clean up spills as soon as possible to prevent staining. Use a mild soap and water solution for cleaning, and avoid letting substances like wine, oil, or acidic liquids sit on the surface.
- When not in use, cover your outdoor furniture to protect it from direct sunlight, rain, and dust. This helps maintain the finish and reduces the need for frequent cleaning.
Solid Brass
Some of our furniture hardware such as handles or caps are made of solid brass. These brass accents are designed to develop a patina over time, which can be polished if preferred.
- If you prefer to restore the brass hardware to a shine, you may use a metal polish suitable for brass metal. Do a small patch test in an inconspicuous area before polishing the whole hardware.
- Avoid using abrasive cleaners that can scratch and dull metal surfaces.
Woven Synthetic Fibres
Synthetic fibres are designed to withstand harsh outdoor conditions, including UV radiation, moisture, and temperature fluctuations. Their durability means that furniture made from these materials often have a long lifespan, and can last with proper care.
- Our woven synthetic fibres are UV and weather resistant and may be placed indoors or outdoors.
- For regular dusting, use a soft cloth or feather duster to remove dust and debris from the surface. For intricate weaving, a soft-bristled brush or a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment can help reach the nooks and crannies.
- To clean, wash with water and mild soap.
Natural Fibres
Natural fibres such as sisal, jute and water hyacinth stalks add a rustic touch to your spaces. While they are durable, proper care is essential to maintain their appearance and longevity.
- Vacuum regularly to remove dirt, dust, and debris. Use a vacuum with a brush attachment to gently loosen and remove particles among the fibres. Vacuum in different directions to ensure thorough cleaning.
- Natural fibres can be damaged by excessive moisture. Avoid using water or steam cleaners on them. If a spill occurs, blot it immediately with a clean, dry cloth or paper towel to absorb as much liquid as possible. Avoid rubbing the spot, as this can push the stain deeper into the fibres.
- For stubborn stains, mix a small amount of mild detergent with water. Dampen a cloth with the solution and gently blot the stain. Rinse the area with a clean, damp cloth to remove any soap residue, then blot dry.
- Rotate your pieces every few months to ensure even wear and exposure to sunlight. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause fading and weakening of the fibres. Place your pieces in an area with indirect sunlight, or use window treatments to block harsh UV rays.
- If you notice any fraying or loose fibres, trim them carefully with scissors. Do not pull on loose fibres, as this can cause further damage.
- For rugs: If you need to store your rug, roll it up rather than folding it to prevent creases. Store it in a dry, cool place to protect it from moisture and pests. Consider using a breathable fabric cover to keep dust and dirt off the rug while it’s in storage.
Tempered Glass
Glass surfaces are tempered to meet safety standards. You may see a label at the edge indicating that the glass has gone through this process.
- Please be advised that hot objects must not be placed directly onto the surface to prevent damage.
- Glass cleaners can be used to clean surfaces with a soft lint-free cloth.
Mirror
Care for your mirrors properly to keep them looking their best: clear, reflective, and free from damage.
- Moisture can damage the backing and frame of the mirrors, causing black spots and other issues. Ensure your mirror is placed in well-ventilated areas and avoid hanging in bathrooms or very humid environments that do not have proper ventilation.
- When moving or installing mirrors, hold your mirror by the sides rather than the corners to avoid stress on the glass, which can lead to cracks or breaks. Ensure your mirror is securely mounted using appropriate hanging hardware that can support its weight.
- Always use a soft, lint-free microfibre cloth or a cotton cloth to clean mirrors. Avoid abrasive materials that could scratch the surface.
- Use a glass cleaner or a solution of water and a few drops of dish soap. You can also make a natural cleaner by mixing equal parts water and white vinegar. Do not use harsh chemicals, ammonia-based cleaners, or abrasive products on mirrors, as these can damage the reflective coating and the frame.
- Spray the cleaner onto the cloth, not directly onto your mirror, to prevent excess moisture from seeping into the edges and backing.
- Gently wipe your mirror in a circular motion to avoid streaks. If streaks appear, buff them out with a dry, clean section of the cloth.
- After cleaning, use a dry microfibre cloth to wipe your mirror dry. This prevents water spots and streaks from forming.
Upholstery
Microfibre, Polyester
- For regular dusting, use a soft brush or vacuum with an upholstery attachment to remove dust and lint.
- Covers can be machine washed with mild soap/detergent, do not use bleach, alcohol-based products or fabric softeners as they can weaken the fibres and may also cause discolouration. Air dry, or tumble dry on low heat setting. Remove from the dryer promptly to minimise wrinkles.
- If needed, iron on a low setting with a cloth barrier to prevent direct heat contact.
- To prevent stains, always clean spills immediately by gently blotting the surface with a damp cloth and mild soap, do not rub as this may cause the area to spread.
Bonded Leather
- Vacuum or wipe with a clean dry cloth regularly to remove dust.
- For further cleaning, use a damp cloth with mild soap and water. Do not use any alcohol-based products as these may cause damage to the leather dyes and cause discolouration.
- Keep away from heat, as this can cause damage to the leather surface.
- To prevent stains, always clean spills immediately by gently blotting the surface with a damp cloth and mild soap, do not rub as this may cause the area to spread.
